Thresholds Into Other Worlds - A Collaboration

Carlos Agamez, a Colombian interdisciplinary performance artist, and Jill Psenitza, a visual artist and meditation teacher, have joined forces to explore the transformative power of the Mandala. Carlos’s work delves into themes of home, cultural displacement, and identity, while Jill’s practice focuses on the symbolic language of myth, metaphor, and storytelling. Together, they create immersive art experiences that engage the broader public and address current social issues.

How ‘Thresholds into Other Worlds’ Started

In 2020, as the world faced a collective threshold, social distancing became a new concept. Amid this global crisis, Carlos and Jill collaborated for a performance about our new social distancing rules as a thematic foundation to explore our shared experience.

Adhering to the social distancing rules, Carlos and Jill created a large circle by tying a 150cm rope to their ankles, the tension between them had to remain just right to paint a circle with their feet. This powerful act planted the seed for what would become the ongoing creative project, ‘Thresholds into Other Worlds.’

The Evolution and Current Work

Recognizing the profound impact on our well-being, Carlos and Jill turned their focus to community engagement. This led to the development of their ‘Thresholds into Other Worlds’ creative workshops. The collage workshops are designed to unite the community, offering a space where individuals could share their experiences of this changed reality. Participants are guided to create Mandalas that serve as tools for reflection and transformation, helping us to connect with our inner worlds while fostering a sense of unity and shared experience.

On top of the community workshops, Carlos and Jill also started offering corporate workshops in 2024 called ‘Thresholds Into Other Worlds - Creative Activities For The Worksplace.
